AI cover letter generator

This free cover letter generator starts from the job you want. Paste the job post, and the AI writes a cover letter for that job from your real experience: why you want this role, one or two results that prove you can do it, and a short close. Then edit any line, pick a design and download a PDF.

Free to start. No card needed.

How it works

  1. 01

    Paste the job post

Copy in the whole advert. The AI writes around what the employer asks for, in the words they use for it.

  2. 02

    Give it your background

If you built or uploaded your resume here, the AI reads it. If not, attach your resume or answer a few questions about your experience.

  3. 03

    Get a first draft

A one-page letter addressed to the company and written around the job. Ask for changes in plain words: "more formal", "shorter", "mention my Python project".

  4. 04

    Choose a design and download

Pick a design, set the font and color to match your resume, and download a PDF in A4 or US Letter.

From job post to cover letter: a worked example

This is the kind of input the generator works from, and the shape of letter it writes. The job post is shortened and the person is made up, but the method is the real one: the letter is built around what the post asks for, using only facts the applicant gave.

From the job post

Customer Success Manager, B2B SaaS (Denver or remote) You'll own a book of 60–80 mid-market accounts, run onboarding and quarterly business reviews, and work with Sales on renewals and expansion. You have 3+ years in customer success or account management and you're comfortable in Salesforce and Gainsight.

What the applicant told the AI

3 years as an account manager at a payroll software company, 70 accounts. Renewal rate 94% last year. Built a new onboarding checklist that cut time-to-first-payroll from 21 to 12 days. Uses Salesforce daily, no Gainsight but used ChurnZero. Wants to work for a company with a bigger product.

The letter it writes

Dear Hiring Manager, I'm applying for the Customer Success Manager role. For the past three years I've managed 70 mid-market accounts at a payroll software company, and last year 94% of them renewed. Your post asks for someone who can own onboarding and quarterly reviews. Onboarding is where I've made the biggest difference: I rebuilt our checklist so new customers ran their first payroll in 12 days instead of 21, which made the first quarterly review a conversation about growth rather than problems. I work in Salesforce every day and track account health in ChurnZero, so Gainsight would be a short step. I'm drawn to this role because your product covers more of each customer's business than payroll alone, which means more ways to help an account grow, and more to talk about at renewal. I'd welcome the chance to discuss how I could help your accounts. Thank you for your time. Kind regards, [Your Name]

  • Every fact comes from the applicant's notes: the 70 accounts, 94% renewals and the 21-to-12-day onboarding result.
  • The missing tool is handled honestly: no Gainsight claimed, ChurnZero named as the closest match.
  • The letter answers the post's two main asks (onboarding and reviews) in the post's own words, and stays under 250 words.

What makes a generated letter worth sending

  • Specific beats enthusiastic

"I'm passionate about this role" says nothing. One result with a number, from your own work, says you can do it. Give the AI your best result and it builds the letter around it.

  • Written for one job

A letter that would fit any company gets skimmed. Each letter is written from the post you paste, so it names the role, the company and what they asked for.

  • Only your facts

The AI is built never to invent experience, skills or numbers. If the job asks for something you haven't done, it won't claim you have.

  • You get the last word

Every line is editable. Read the letter out loud before you send it; change anything that doesn't sound like you.

Who it's for

  • You're sending a lot of applications

Write a new letter for each job in a few minutes, from the same resume, instead of sending one letter everywhere.

  • New grads with little to show yet

The AI builds the letter around your projects, internships and why you want the job, so a short work history doesn't make a short letter.

  • Career changers

Tell the AI why you're moving. It explains the change in a sentence and connects what you've done to what the new job needs.

  • "Cover letter optional"

When the form says optional, a short, specific letter is an easy way to stand out from people who skipped it.

Questions

Is the AI cover letter generator free?
You can start free: as many cover letters as you like, 25 AI messages in total, and a PDF download in the Classic design. You can write and design with every template; the others download with Pro ($29/month or $59 for 3 months, or ₹1,599/month or ₹3,299 for 3 months plus GST in India).
Is there a free cover letter generator with no sign-up?
Some generators skip sign-up but forget everything when you close the tab. This one needs a free account, so the AI can read your resume, keep your drafts and give you a PDF. If you just need a structure without an account, copy one of our free cover letter examples by job and fill it in.
Can recruiters tell if a cover letter is AI-generated?
Often they can tell a generic one: vague praise for the company, "I am passionate about", no numbers. A letter built on your own results and the job's actual requirements doesn't read that way, whoever typed it. Read it aloud and change anything you wouldn't say.
What should I give the generator for the best letter?
The full job post, your resume (or a few lines about your experience), and one result you're proud of with a number in it. One specific reason you want this company helps too. The more concrete the input, the less generic the letter.
Will every letter sound the same?
No. Each letter starts from the job post you paste and the experience you give it, so the opening, the proof and the close change with the job. Ask the AI to change the tone or swap the example if it doesn't sound like you.
Does it use my resume?
Yes, if your resume is in your account, built here or uploaded. The AI reads it for your experience and results. You can also attach a resume file in the chat.
How long should a cover letter be?
One page: about 250 to 400 words in three or four short paragraphs. For the text box on a job portal, ask the AI for a shorter version.
Is it OK to use AI to write a cover letter?
Yes, as long as everything in it is true and you've read it. Employers care that the letter is specific to them and honest about you. Treat the AI's draft as a first draft.
How is this different from writing a cover letter with ChatGPT?
A ChatGPT cover letter only knows what you paste in each time, and you still have to format it. Here the AI reads the resume already in your account, is built not to invent experience, and puts the letter straight into a design that matches your resume, ready to download as a PDF.
Can I download the cover letter in Word?
Letters download as a PDF, which keeps the design the same on every screen. You can copy the text from the editor into Word, an email or a portal's text box.
