Getting the most from one column templates

  1. 01

Order sections by what sells you

Experienced? Work experience goes right after the summary. Student or new grad? Put education and projects first. You can reorder sections in every template.

  2. 02

Fit skills in one or two lines

Group skills by type (Languages, Tools, Methods) on single lines instead of a long list. It saves space without needing a sidebar.

  3. 03

Use dates the same way everywhere

Pick one format, like "Jan 2023 – Present" or "2023 – Present", and use it for every job and school.

Questions

Is a one column resume better than two columns?
For ATS, yes: it is read in the right order every time. Two columns fit more on a page and look more designed. If you are unsure, use one column.
Can a one column resume have color?
Yes. Banner, Charcoal and Emerald add a color band or accent and stay single column, so they are still easy for an ATS to read.
How long should a one column resume be?
One page for students and people with under 8 to 10 years of experience. Two pages is fine with a longer career, as long as page one carries your best work.
