How to write a resume summary
- 01
Start with who you are
Your job title and years of experience: "Data analyst with 4 years of experience in retail." It tells the recruiter in one line whether to keep reading.
- 02
Name your strongest skills
Two to four skills from the job post, in the same words. ATS software and recruiters both scan for them.
- 03
Add one result
The thing you're proudest of, with a number if you have one: "Built a dashboard that replaced 15 weekly reports."
- 04
Keep it short
Two or three sentences, 40 to 70 words. No "I", no "hard-working" or "passionate". Show them instead.

Questions
- What is a resume summary?
- Two or three sentences at the top of your resume that say who you are, what you're good at and your best result. Recruiters often read it first, sometimes only it.
- Summary or objective: which should I use?
- A summary, almost always. Objectives talk about what you want; summaries show what you offer. New graduates can mention the role they want at the end of the summary.
- Is this resume summary generator really free?
- Yes. No sign-up and no card. You get 10 free generations a day across our free tools. A free account adds an AI that writes your whole resume with you.
- Will the AI make up facts about me?
- No. It only uses what you type. Where a number would help and you didn't give one, it leaves a [placeholder] for you to fill in.
