Why this resume works

  • Every bullet starts with a verb and ends with a result, most with a number.
  • The skills a sales representative job post asks for appear in the Skills section and again inside the bullets.
  • A single, standard layout (Corporate) that applicant tracking systems read top to bottom.
  • Standard headings (Summary, Work Experience, Education, Skills) so the ATS files each part correctly.

How to write a sales representative resume

  1. 01

    Lead with quota attainment

"132% of quota" is the most important phrase on a sales resume. Add your ranking on the team if it's strong.

  2. 02

    Use dollar figures

Revenue closed, deal sizes, pipeline built. Sales managers think in money, and so does the ATS search for "revenue".

  3. 03

Name what you sold and to whom

Software to mid-market finance teams is a different job from medical devices to hospitals. Say it, so you match roles in the same space.

  4. 04

    Show awards

President's Club, top performer, promotions. Add an Awards section; it's quick proof you deliver.

Sales Representative resume, section by section

Header and title

Marcus uses his current title, "Account Executive", which tells a sales manager exactly what level he sells at. Use the title that matches the job: SDR, Account Executive, Account Manager or Sales Representative.

Summary

His summary gives years, what he sells (software) and to whom (mid-market companies), his track record (quota beaten 5 years running), last year's number ($1.8M) and how he sells (full cycle, consultative, on Salesforce). It reads like a short pitch, which is what a sales summary should be.

Work experience

The first bullet carries the most important facts: revenue, quota percentage and ranking (132%, #2 of 18). Then pipeline he built himself, a shorter sales cycle, and his largest deal. Each bullet answers a question a sales manager asks in the interview.

Earlier role and promotion

His SDR role shows meetings booked against target (125%) and activity (70+ calls and emails a day), then "promoted to account executive after 18 months". A promotion inside sales is strong evidence, so always include it.

Skills

Selling skills (prospecting, discovery, negotiation, closing) and tools (Salesforce, Outreach, Sales Navigator, Gong). Marcus names MEDDIC because he uses it; a method you can talk about in an interview is worth listing.

Awards

President's Club gets its own section with the year. Sales awards are rare, verifiable proof of performance, so give them space where a reader can see them.

Entry-level to senior sales representative resume bullet points

SDR / BDR (0–2 years)

  • Booked an average of 22 qualified meetings a month, 115% of target, for 4 account executives.
  • Generated $1.4M in pipeline in a year through cold calls, email sequences and LinkedIn.
  • Wrote a call script for the healthcare segment that the team adopted, lifting connect-to-meeting rate from 8% to 12%.
  • Ranked first of 9 SDRs for 3 quarters in a row.

Account executive (3–6 years)

  • Closed $1.1M in new ARR, 121% of quota, selling to HR and operations leaders at 200 to 1,000-person companies.
  • Keep a 31% win rate on qualified opportunities against a team average of 24%.
  • Expanded 14 existing accounts with add-on modules worth $280K.
  • Run 40+ tailored demos a quarter with a solutions engineer.

Enterprise AE / sales manager (7+ years)

  • Closed 4 enterprise contracts worth $3.2M in total, with sales cycles of 6 to 9 months.
  • Lead 7 account executives to 112% of a $9M team target.
  • Introduced MEDDIC qualification and weekly deal reviews, raising forecast accuracy from 70% to 90%.
  • Coached 3 reps from under 70% of quota to above 100% within a year.

Mistakes to avoid on a sales representative resume

  • Activity instead of results

Calls and emails a day belong on an SDR resume, but an account executive should lead with closed revenue and quota. Activity supports the result; it doesn't replace it.

  • The number buried at the end

"Worked with mid-market clients across Texas to grow revenue, reaching 132% of quota" makes the reader wait. Start the bullet with the number.

  • No deal size or sales cycle

A rep closing $5,000 deals in a week and one closing $300,000 deals over six months do different jobs. Give your average deal size and cycle so a manager can see the match.

  • Short stints with no context

Sales careers often include short roles. If a company was acquired or a territory was cut, add a few words in brackets so the reader doesn't assume the worst.

Key takeaways

  • Start each role with quota attainment, revenue and ranking.
  • Say what you sold, to whom, at what deal size.
  • Show promotions and awards; they're proof from someone else.
  • Separate new business from account growth if you've done both.

Questions about sales representative resumes

What if I missed quota one year?
You don't have to report every year. Show your best and most recent results, and the average if it's strong, like "averaged 115% of quota over 4 years".
Should I put my sales numbers if they're confidential?
Use percentages and rankings instead of exact revenue: "132% of quota, #2 of 18 reps" shares no company figures.
How do I move from retail into B2B sales?
Show targets you beat, customers you handled and products you learned. Apply for SDR or inside sales roles, which are the usual first step.
How long should a sales resume be?
One page for most sales reps. Sales managers read for your numbers and your trajectory, and a one-page resume with strong figures shows you can get to the point, which is part of the job.
How do I show account management versus new business?
For new business, show new logos, new revenue and pipeline you built yourself. For account management, show retention, expansion revenue and renewals. If you've done both, give each its own bullet so a manager hiring for one can find it.
Which sales tools and methods should I list?
The CRM you lived in (Salesforce or HubSpot), the tools you prospect and sell with (Sales Navigator, Outreach, Gong) and any method you actually used, like MEDDIC or SPIN. Skip anything you only saw in training.
