Writing a modern cover letter

   Write the way you talk at work

   A modern design suits a modern tone: short sentences, contractions, no "To whom it may concern". Stay polite, but sound like a person.

   Let the header carry the color

   The template already puts color on your name or the header band. Keep the body text dark and don't color words inside the letter.

   Lead your proof with something you shipped

   Start the middle paragraph with a launch, a campaign or a number you moved. Fast-moving teams hire for results they can picture.

   Point to your work in the closing line

   The header holds your email, phone and city. Add your portfolio, GitHub or LinkedIn link in the last paragraph so the reader can see what you've made.

Questions

What does a modern cover letter look like?

A clean sans-serif font, one accent color in the header, short paragraphs and a friendly but professional tone. Many are under 300 words.

Is it OK to use color in a cover letter?

Yes, for most private-sector jobs, as long as the color stays in the header and the body text is dark. For banks, law firms or government, a professional template is the safer choice.

Can applicant tracking systems read these templates?

Yes. The PDF holds real, selectable text, not an image, so software can read every word, including the side column in Sidebar.

Can I change a template's color?

Yes. Pick a preset or any custom color in the designer, and change the font, size and line spacing too. Reset brings back the template's own color and font.
