Production Engineer resume example

Production engineers are hired to hit output, quality and cost on the shop floor. Your resume should name the line or process you run, the volumes, and the numbers you moved: OEE, rejection in PPM, cycle time, changeover time. Show the tools you used to get there, like Kaizen, SMED and TPM.

Why this resume works

  • Every bullet starts with a verb and ends with a result, most with a number.
  • The skills a production engineer job post asks for appear in the Skills section and again inside the bullets.
  • A single, standard layout (Split Header) that applicant tracking systems read top to bottom.
  • Standard headings (Summary, Work Experience, Education, Skills) so the ATS files each part correctly.

How to write a production engineer resume

  1. 01

    Lead with OEE and PPM

Plant heads read production resumes for OEE, rejection PPM and output. Give before and after numbers for each.

  2. 02

    Describe the line

Process (machining, forging, assembly, molding), parts per shift, operators and customers. It sets your level fast.

  3. 03

    Name the methods you used

SMED, TPM, Kaizen, poka-yoke, 8D. Methods plus results show you can repeat the improvement on a new line.

  4. 04

    Mention people handling

Running 60 operators over 3 shifts is a real skill. Say how many people you lead and any training you give them.

Production Engineer resume, section by section

Header

Name, "Production Engineer", phone, email, city and LinkedIn. Manufacturing hubs like Chakan, Hosur or Manesar are worth naming in your location or summary, since many plants hire locally.

Summary

Sandeep's summary describes his line precisely: automotive components at a Tier-1 supplier, machining and assembly, 2,400 parts a shift, 60 operators across 3 shifts. Then the three numbers he moved (OEE, rejections, changeovers) and the methods he used. A plant head can picture his job straight away.

Work experience

Each bullet joins a method to a result: OEE from 64% to 79% through loss tracking and autonomous maintenance; rejection from 2,800 PPM to 650 PPM with poka-yoke on 6 stations; changeover from 55 to 18 minutes with SMED. The last bullet goes one step further and turns faster changeovers into ₹1.2 crore less inventory.

Trainee role

His GET role shows early results: line balancing that cut cycle time 14% and freed 2 operators, 26 Kaizens worth ₹18 lakh a year, and 5S that took the audit score from 52% to 86%. Trainee bullets with numbers stand out because most GET resumes only list duties.

Skills and tools

Manufacturing methods and documents (OEE, line balancing, SMED, TPM, Kaizen, poka-yoke, PFMEA, control plan, 8D, IATF documentation) and tools (SAP PP, Excel, Minitab, AutoCAD, basic CNC programming). Plants hire for the methods by name.

Certification and languages

A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt backs up the improvement work. Marathi, Hindi and English matter on a Pune shop floor, where you train and talk to operators every day.

Entry-level to senior production engineer resume bullet points

Graduate engineer trainee (0–2 years)

  • Track hourly output and downtime on 2 CNC lines and report losses at the morning meeting.
  • Wrote photo work instructions for 18 operations in Marathi and Hindi.
  • Run first-piece approval with quality at the start of every shift.
  • Submitted 12 Kaizens in my first year, including a fixture change that saved 6 seconds a part.

Production engineer (3–6 years)

  • Run a paint shop producing 1,500 parts a shift; paint rework fell from 6% to 2.5%.
  • Plan daily production in SAP PP against customer schedules, with 98% on-time delivery.
  • Introduced autonomous maintenance on 14 machines, cutting minor stoppages by 40%.
  • Led the PFMEA and control plan for a new part, approved by the customer at the first PPAP submission.

Production manager (8+ years)

  • Head production for a 3-shift plant of 350 people making ₹420 crore of parts a year.
  • Raised plant OEE from 68% to 81% over 2 years with TPM and monthly loss reviews.
  • Cut labor cost per part by 12% through line balancing and automating 4 stations.
  • Led the plant through IATF 16949 recertification and 3 customer audits with no major findings.

Mistakes to avoid on a production engineer resume

  • Methods without results

Kaizen, SMED, TPM and 5S in a list show you've heard of them. Give each one a number: OEE, PPM, minutes or rupees.

  • Improvements with no starting point

"Achieved 79% OEE" is hard to judge. Write it as a change, from 64% to 79%, so the reader sees your contribution.

  • Output with no quality or safety

More parts a shift means little if rejections or accidents went up. Show rejection, customer complaints and safety alongside output.

  • No rupee impact

Plant heads think in cost. Turn at least one improvement into money: inventory freed, scrap saved or labor cost per part.

Key takeaways

  • Lead with OEE, PPM, cycle time and changeover numbers.
  • Describe the line: process, volume, shifts and operators.
  • Pair each method with the result it produced.
  • Turn your biggest improvement into rupees.

Questions about production engineer resumes

Production engineer or mechanical engineer: which title should I use?
Use the one in the job post. If you work on the shop floor, "production engineer" matches more searches. Our mechanical engineer example covers design roles.
Should I list Kaizens individually?
No. Give the count and total saving, and describe 1 or 2 of the biggest as separate bullets.
Is a Six Sigma Green Belt useful for production roles?
Yes, especially in automotive and IATF-certified plants. Pair it with a project result to show you've used it.
How do I write a production engineer resume as a GET or fresher?
Use your in-plant training and final-year project, each with a measured result, like a cycle time or rejection change. Add AutoCAD, Excel and any lean training, and say you're comfortable with shift work on the shop floor.
Should I mention IATF 16949 or customer audits?
Yes, for automotive suppliers. Say what you prepared (PFMEA, control plans, work instructions) and how the audits ended. OEM customers audit their suppliers, so audit experience is valuable.
