Why this resume works

  • Every bullet starts with a verb and ends with a result, most with a number.
  • The skills a relationship manager job post asks for appear in the Skills section and again inside the bullets.
  • A single, standard layout (Elegant) that applicant tracking systems read top to bottom.
  • Standard headings (Summary, Work Experience, Education, Skills) so the ATS files each part correctly.

How to write a relationship manager resume

  1. 01

Lead with the size of your book

Number of clients and total relationship value or AUM tell the reader your level at once. Show where the book started and where it is now.

  2. 02

Separate new money from market growth

A book can grow because markets rose. Net new money, new clients and products placed show what you added yourself.

  3. 03

    Show retention and service

Wealth clients stay for service. Attrition rate, review frequency and complaint handling prove you look after the book, not just sell to it.

  4. 04

    Put compliance on the page

Suitability, KYC and audit results matter a lot in wealth banking. A clean audit record reassures every hiring manager.

Relationship Manager resume, section by section

Header and title

Nidhi uses her exact designation, "Relationship Manager, Wealth Banking", which tells the reader her segment. Phone, email, city and LinkedIn follow.

Summary

It gives her years, her segment (HNI families), the size of her book (140 families, ₹310 crore), the products she places and her certifications, with a line on suitability. That covers what a wealth banking head screens for.

Work experience

The bullets cover growth (book from ₹210 crore to ₹310 crore), new money against target, retention and audits. The personal banker role shows the step before wealth banking, with CASA growth and product sales.

Skills

Products and client work in one group, systems in another. Naming the products matters, because a bank looking for someone who can place PMS or bonds will search for those words.

Certifications

Three certifications with years in their own section. In Indian banking these are often required, so make them easy to find.

Education

PGDM and B.Com with institutes and years. A finance degree is common for RMs; certifications and book results matter more as you grow.

Entry-level to senior relationship manager resume bullet points

Personal banker / junior RM (0–3 years)

  • Look after 500 affluent customers at a metro branch, handling service and new products.
  • Opened 300 new savings and current accounts in a year through walk-ins and referrals.
  • Sold 150 SIPs and 60 term insurance policies after a needs review with each customer.
  • Kept every customer file complete for KYC and risk profiling, with zero audit errors.

Relationship manager (3–7 years)

  • Manage 120 HNI families with ₹250 crore in deposits and investments.
  • Run quarterly portfolio reviews with every family and rebalance with the investment desk.
  • Grew insurance and investment income from the book by 35% in 2 years.
  • Work with the bank's lending team on loans against property and securities for clients.

Senior RM / team leader (8+ years)

  • Lead 5 relationship managers covering ₹1,100 crore across 400 families.
  • Personally manage 50 ultra-HNI families with complex needs like family offices and succession planning.
  • Coach RMs on suitability and documentation; the team has had no major audit finding in 4 years.
  • Set and track team targets for net new money, revenue and client retention.

Mistakes to avoid on a relationship manager resume

  • Products sold, but no book size

Product counts without the size of your book make your level hard to judge. Start with clients and total value.

  • Market growth claimed as your own

If your book grew 30% in a strong market, say how much came from new money and new clients. Experienced readers will ask.

  • Sharing client details

Names, family details or specific holdings should never appear. It's a confidentiality breach and a red flag for any bank.

  • Leaving out compliance

Mis-selling is a serious risk in wealth banking. A line on suitability and clean audits sets you apart from pure sellers.

Key takeaways

  • Open with your client segment, client count and book size.
  • Show net new money and new clients, not just book growth.
  • Include retention and service numbers.
  • List NISM and insurance certifications and clean audits.

Questions about relationship manager resumes

Which NISM certifications should a relationship manager list?
Series V-A for mutual fund distribution is the usual minimum, and many banks also ask for insurance certification. Series X-A and X-B or Series XXI-A for portfolio management add weight for wealth roles. List each with the year.
Can I share client names or portfolio details?
No. Describe your book by number of clients, segment and total value. Never name clients or share holdings; banks take confidentiality very seriously, and so will the person reading your resume.
How do I move from branch banking to wealth management?
Show the investment and insurance products you've sold, the affluent customers you've handled, and any NISM certifications. Growth in your customers' balances and referrals you won make a strong case.
Will my client book move with me to a new bank?
Don't promise it on your resume. Hiring managers know some clients follow good RMs, but your resume should focus on how you grew and kept the book, not on taking it with you.
Should a relationship manager resume be one page?
One page works up to about 7 years. Senior RMs with several banks and team roles can use two, as long as the first page shows the book size, growth and certifications.
