.NET Developer resume example

.NET developers are hired to build and keep alive the business systems companies rely on: portals, APIs, internal tools and line-of-business apps. A strong .NET resume names the version you work on, shows you can modernize older code safely, and proves the systems you own stay fast and stable.

Why this resume works

  • Every bullet starts with a verb and ends with a result, most with a number.
  • The skills a .NET developer job post asks for appear in the Skills section and again inside the bullets.
  • A single, standard layout (Classic Standard) that applicant tracking systems read top to bottom.
  • Standard headings (Summary, Work Experience, Education, Skills) so the ATS files each part correctly.

How to write a .NET developer resume

  1. 01

Say which .NET you work on

".NET Framework 4.8" and ".NET 8" mean different things to a hiring manager. If you've moved code from one to the other, that is one of the most useful bullets you can write.

  2. 02

Show the business system, not just the stack

Most .NET work runs a real business process: repairs, claims, orders, payroll. Saying who uses your system and how many makes the work concrete.

  3. 03

    Prove you care about quality

Tests in the pipeline, fewer bugs after release, logging that catches errors early. .NET teams often maintain systems for years, so they hire people who keep code healthy.

  4. 04

    Add Azure where it's real

Many .NET jobs now include Azure. Name the services you've actually deployed to, like App Service, Functions or Service Bus, rather than writing "cloud".

.NET Developer resume, section by section

Header

Oliver's header is plain: name, ".NET Developer", phone, email, city and LinkedIn. A GitHub link is optional for .NET roles, since much of the work is in private company repositories; add one if you have public C# work to show.

Summary

The summary names his years, the kind of systems he builds (C# web APIs and internal tools), the sectors (housing and public sector), the big migration (.NET Framework 4.7 to .NET 8 on Azure) and how he works. A recruiter can match it to a job post in one read.

Work experience

Each bullet gives the .NET technology and what changed for users: tenants booking online, a dashboard going from 14 seconds to 2, fewer bugs after release. The junior role shows a steady base of support tickets and maintenance, which is honest and still useful.

Skills

Split into the .NET stack and data and cloud. Listing ASP.NET Core and ASP.NET MVC separately helps here, because some job posts ask for one specifically.

Certification

AZ-204 sits in its own section with the year. If you hold other Microsoft certificates, keep only the ones relevant to development roles so the section stays short.

Education

One line is enough. A software degree, a placement year or a bootcamp all work for .NET roles; your work history carries the weight after the first job.

Entry-level to senior .NET developer resume bullet points

Junior .NET developer (0–2 years)

  • Built 6 ASP.NET Core endpoints for the claims portal, each covered by xUnit tests.
  • Fixed 80 support tickets in the first year across C# services and SQL Server reports.
  • Wrote LINQ queries and Entity Framework migrations for 3 new database tables.
  • Documented the local setup for the main solution, cutting new-starter setup from 3 days to 1.

.NET developer (3–6 years)

  • Own the order-processing API in ASP.NET Core, handling 15,000 orders a day.
  • Moved 4 internal tools from .NET Framework to .NET 8 with no change for users.
  • Introduced Azure Service Bus between ordering and invoicing, ending lost invoices during outages.
  • Run code reviews for 2 junior developers and pair with them on production issues.

Senior / lead .NET engineer (7+ years)

  • Set the architecture for breaking a 15-year-old .NET monolith into 6 services on Azure.
  • Lead a team of 7 developers and testers, owning delivery for 3 business systems.
  • Brought the main solution's build and test time from 40 minutes to 9 in Azure DevOps.
  • Wrote the team's standards for logging, error handling and dependency injection.

Mistakes to avoid on a .NET developer resume

  • No version numbers anywhere

".NET" alone leaves the reader guessing whether you've worked on anything from the last five years. Name the versions you know, especially .NET 6 or later.

  • Only maintenance duties

"Maintained legacy applications" undersells real work. Say what you improved: speed, stability, fewer tickets, or a manual job you automated.

  • Listing Visual Studio as a skill

Every .NET developer uses Visual Studio or Rider. Use the space for frameworks, Azure services and testing tools that actually separate you from other applicants.

  • Leaving out the database

Most .NET roles involve a lot of SQL Server. If you write T-SQL, tune queries or design schemas, say so; it's often a deciding skill.

Key takeaways

  • Name the .NET versions you use and any migration you've led.
  • Say who uses the systems you build and how many people.
  • Show quality work: tests, logging and fewer bugs after release.
  • List the Azure services and SQL Server work you've really done.

Questions about .NET developer resumes

Is .NET Framework experience still worth listing?
Yes. Plenty of companies still run it and need people who can maintain or migrate it. Pair it with any .NET Core or .NET 8 work so the reader sees you're current too.
Should I write "C# developer" or ".NET developer" as my title?
Use the wording in the job post. They describe the same work, and recruiters search for both, so it helps to have both terms somewhere on the page.
Does the AZ-204 certification help?
It helps with roles that build on Azure, especially at consultancies and Microsoft partners. List it with the year; your deployed Azure work still matters more.
How do I write about maintaining legacy code without sounding dull?
Focus on what got better: pages that got faster, tickets that stopped coming, a manual process you replaced, or a migration you made safe. Maintenance written as results reads as reliability.
Should I include front-end skills on a .NET resume?
Yes, if you've used them at work. Razor, Blazor, Angular or React alongside C# makes you useful on full-stack .NET teams. Put them in a separate skills group so the back-end core stays clear.
